The Northfield Cardinals had everything working on Thursday, picking up their first win of the season over The Ocean City Water Dogs 10-3
The Water Dogs got things moving in the first inning when Brian Khoury doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Khoury would later score on a ground out to put the Water Dogs up 2 to 0.
The Northfield Cardinals took the lead for good with five runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Jonathan Storz singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Luke McCarthy singled on a 2-0 count, knocking in a run, Tommy Burns executed a perfect suicide squeeze, to drive in another run, and Bobby Baxter Jr doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.
Michael Dodd Jr was dominant for The Cards. The hurler pitched the final four innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking zero.
The Northfield Cardinals tallied ten hits in the game. Burns, McCarthy, Baxter Jr, and JJ Swentkowski each collected multiple hits. Baxter Jr had 3 RBIs and Swentkowski knocked in 2.
Northfield improves to 1 and 2 and Ocean City is 2 and 1. The Cards host The Galloway Mustangs on Memorial Day and Ocean City is home against The South Jersey Surf on Tuesday.
